Night and Day

We're only two weeks in to this life as parents of two, and already it's noticeable just how different these two babies are! When I first found out we were having another boy, I assumed the experience of raising Baby 2 would be pretty similar to raising Baby 1. But I'm actually quite pleased that this time around (and this baby) is completely unique! Almost everything about Baby 2 is the opposite of Baby 1 in both timing and personality. For example:

-Baby 2 was born in the winter (December) while Baby 1 was born in the summer (six months almost exactly, in June).

-Baby 2 was born in the morning (8:39am) while Baby 1 was born in the late afternoon (4:25pm).

-Baby 2 came out of his C-section looking milky white, with a loud cry like a duck quacking, weighing in small (5 pounds, 14 ounces). Baby 1 came out of his C-section looking purple, with a tiny cry, weighing in at larger than we expected (7 pounds, 4 ounces).

-Baby 2 was born with tan skin, dark eyes, and lots of black hair. Baby 1 was born with light skin, blue/green eyes, and only a little brown hair.

-Baby 2 hates being cold. He wants to be swaddled (though usually with hands out so he can suck on them). Baby 1 kicked out of his swaddle all the time. I don't think he ever gets cold.

-Baby 2 falls asleep in the car and in his bassinet. He seems to like motion. But singing cannot soothe him. Baby 1 never slept in the car, rarely in his bassinet, and will stop crying when you sing.

I'm excited to see what else emerges from both their personalities as they grow. Baby 1 was a late talker but a whiz at self help skills. Will Baby 2 talk early to try to keep up with his brother? Will he be grumpier or happier than his brother at the same age? What toys and books and activities will he end up liking best? Will he try to emulate his brother or continue with a complete individual personality so he can stand out in his own way? Only time will tell, but for now, it's fun to see the differences between night and day.
